Ensuring Access to Affordable Healthcare

Alabama’s rate of rural hospital closures is the second highest in the nation. There are solutions to this problem but our legislators have refused to accept the Medicaid expansion which would go a long way to saving our rural hospitals and making healthcare affordable for lower income families. Alabama can still take the Medicaid expansion. Alabama Republicans still say it is a terrible idea and yet sixty percent of the states have accepted the expansion and NONE of them is willing to give it up. If we took it, a single person earning up to $16,643 or a family of three earning under $28,180 would be elegible for medical care through Medicaid.

  • I would support a study looking at the possible tangential benefits the Medicaid expansion could bring to communities via the influx of new dollars into a community.
  • I would support a study looking at the possible tangential benefits the Medicaid expansion could bring to communities via the influx of new tax dollars into a community and how this would impact the state of Alabama.
  • I strongly feel that the Medicaid expansion would help hospitals, local businesses and the tax base and, if the governor does not take action to implement the Medicaid expansion, i would support a bill demanding that the governor implement the Medicaid expansion.
